Ukrainian President Calls on Foreigners to Fight Russia

UKRAINE: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the creation of the International Legion for the Territorial Defense of Ukraine, which will register foreigners who want to fight for the country against Russia in Ukrainian territory.

On Sunday, Zelenskyy addressed the people of foreign countries, saying that Russia's offensive was not just an invasion of Ukraine, but the beginning of a war against Europe, so whoever wants to join the fight and stand with Ukraine is welcomed in this war.

"Anyone, who wants to join the fight against Russia to protect the world security, comes to our state and joins the ranks of the territorial defense forces," he said. "A separate foreign entity is created, the International Legion for the Territorial Defense of Ukraine."

Since Russia launched its offensive in Ukraine, NATO members have pledged to supply weapons to Ukrainian forces. However, NATO has announced that it had no plans to send troops, leading Zelenskyy to claim that Ukraine was left to defend itself alone.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has explained the urgent need to launch a military operation to "demilitarize Ukraine" to protect the republic of Donbas and to ensure that Russia will not be under NATO threat from Ukrainian territory. The West has responded to the offensive by imposing new sanctions on Russia.
